Why HGP scientists used sperm cell for Human GNOME mapping

Why HGP scientists used sperm cell for Human GNOME mapping

Before few years back, I came across a Human Gnome project and communicated to one of the scientist and asked him the above question. In response they gave me a good explanation. Following is the gist of the multiple email exchanges.

Human body cells contains identical DNA in each cell. They could even take any cell of body, and also had an option to prefer a cell from female body as well. After analysis they concluded that a sperm cell or female egg is the only best option. From these two, they found that getting an egg from female body needs lots of nursing and is not simple to do it. So finally concluded that they would prefer a sperm cell from male body for complete GNOME mapping.

Another reason for the selection of sperm cell is that "Sperm cell contains maximum soluble proteins" contrary to other cells of the body. Sperm cell being responsible for new creation has maximum soluble proteins. It is also said that length of DNA mapping is equivalent to Manhattan Telephone directory.

Before few days I was discussing with one of the scientist in the field of crop genetics. He said that the total DNA strand is composed of chemicals. All these chemicals are responsible for the generation or synthesis of further chemicals which are responsible for the operation or function of respective cell.

During engineering we learned "Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, but it can only be converted from one form to another form". It is also commonly known that one ejaculation takes out around 5 ml of semen. This 5 ml of semen contains millions of sperm cells. These millions of sperm cells contains all those chemicals which were responsible for the syntheses of proteins and other required chemicals.  Greatness of this body is that as soon as the semen is taken out of the body, body again starts working to re-generate it again.

Many times I get confused with the medical advice. After donating blood, doctors say that you need to take a gap of 3 months to donate next time. But I have never seen a doctor recommending a patient to not to waste his semen for next 3-6 months or similar period. So that body will regenerate required proteins or cells. I even agree that body has a capability to generate semen within 2-3 hours of loosing it.... But the question is what is the quality of those sperm cells?

From the young age of 15 a male starts loosing his sperms. Following table shows the average statistics of amount of semen lost in his life which is equivalent to his weight

Energy or chemicals which are required to produce these sperm cells comes from the food we eat. If a male continues to loose semen at this rate, but does not consume proper food, then the sperms will be depleted of good quality. These qualities in the sperm are required during the process of birthing.  A sperm has to swim a longer distance, compete with other sperms, break the shell of egg, enter into the egg and grow within the egg for nine months.

All these soluble proteins are part of human body. If the semen is not lost, then these proteins or chemicals are used in the body for the development. Which helps human body to grow stronger.

I also came across a question that our urine also contains thousands of useful chemicals so body does not become weak after loosing them. Answer to this is that urination is body filtration process. But taking semen out of the body is forceful or the process with specific mind body stimulation. Without stimulation semen does not go out of the body.

Identify your own pattern of semen loss and see how many valuable proteins or chemicals you loose every day or till date. Save those proteins for your retirement so that you will die healthy.

Your friend.
